SACRISTY

We are happy to announce the appointment of Mr David Formosa as new sacristan for Farm Street . David has worked with the Jesuits over many years and is currently very involved in CLC (Christian Life Communities). He has formerly been with a City firm in human resources and has spent some of his early years with the White Fathers doing missionary work. David will be with us on weekends and at agreed times during the week and will have overall supervision of the sacristy. Assisting in the sacristy will be Maria Fernandes, who has been a great help at Farm Street for many years. Maria will be in each weekday.

NEW AND IMPROVED

A new telephone system has been installed at 114 Mount Street and we hope this will help to ensure better service for everyone. New boilers are being installed at this time and we regret the temporary loss of heat in the church. We hope to have things operational in the next two weeks. Meanwhile, please sit a bit closer!

JUSTICE AND PEACE

A Justice and Peace Group will be starting in the parish. The J and P Network is a national organization within the Catholic Church to promote more just social structures and to support those who are working for peace. It provides information and advocacy and gives opportunities for people in parishes to take part in supporting causes on behalf of the poor and the powerless. If you are interested in joining this group, please contact Patsy Cummings at pcummings@rcdow.org.uk .

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Parents of children who wish to make their First Holy Communion in 2010 need to register by Sunday 25th October 2009 . Fr William will be arranging to meet with the parents individually in the next week or so. For further details see Patsy Cummings after Mass or pcummings@rcdow.org.uk .

PERUVIAN ORPHANS

We welcome once again Elena Day and her team who will be displaying splendid knitted articles and other handicrafts from Peru in the Hall after Mass this morning. Proceeds will go to the support of the Peruvian Orphan Children's Fund. We help this charity each year at this time.

NIGHT RECEPTIONISTS

We thank those who have offered their services to look after the door and telephone at 114 Mount Street on weekdays from 5 to 8:30pm . Even if you could only do this once a month we would still like to have a few more volunteers. A great way to help the Church and Jesuit community! Contact Fr William.

NEWSLETTER

In order to accommodate all the items relating to parish activities, as well as items of interest from the Diocese and beyond, and in order to provide a weekly essay for reflection, we will be changing the newsletter format in the near future. If you have ideas or appropriate skills to offer we would be very happy to hear from you. The website is also undergoing a revamp. There has been some interest shown in starting a parish magazine. Again if you have ideas or appropriate skills to offer, please let the parish office know. Many thanks.

Fr Anthony Meredith is recovering from his knee-replacement operation and is hoping to be back with us in two or three weeks. Good news!
