YOUTH
MINISTRY OF THE WORD
This
Youth Ministry aims to encourage our young people
who attend Farm Street
Church
the opportunity to learn
more about their faith, experience catholic social
teaching, share common interests and to get more
involved in the life of the parish, which would
involve organising activities, events, volunteering,
and much more. If you are 14 years of age and over,
and interested, please contact Patsy Cummings pcummings@rcdow.org.uk
.
DISABILITY
ACCESS
Construction
of disabled access through the bookshop area (former
“Agony Chapel”) resumes shortly. During this time
there will be no bookshop facilities in the church.
Please use the bookshop extension in the Church
Hall on Sunday mornings. Thank you for your patience.
FIRST
HOLY COMMUNION AND CONFIRMATION
Parents
of children who wish to make their First Holy Communion
or Confirmation next year, and are 7 or 14 years
of age or above, respectively, should contact Patsy
Cummings via email, or see her after Mass to obtain
the necessary forms.
CHILDREN'S
CHOIR
Rehearsals
for the children's choir began last week. It's
still possible to join! There is no lower age limit.
Parents of children who are interested who have
not yet registered should see Patsy after Mass or
contact her via e-mail (above).
PARISH
REGISTRATION
As you know,
Farm
Street
is a city-centre church at the service of the wider
Catholic community and our “parishioners” come from
all over London
and
well beyond. If you are a regular worshipper here
and have never filled in a registration form, please
do so. This is for our records only. 2009 forms
are available at all the church doors.
CAFOD
The
Catholic Agency for Overseas Development CAFOD will
be making its Harvest Day Appeal this weekend under
the guidance of Dr Andrea Kelly. Family Fast Day
is on Friday 2 October and the collection for the
appeal will be on the following Sunday. Money this
year is being directed to the people who are suffering
most from the financial crisis. The need is enormous,
and CAFOD's funds are stretched to the limit (and
worth less than they were a year ago) so please
be generous to those who live in daily poverty.
Envelopes are available at the church doors this
week. Don't forget to fill in the gift aid details
if you are a UK
taxpayer.
THE
CHANGING FACE OF
BRITAIN
Focus
Group Discussion:
Where
now for Racial Justice?
CARJ
(Catholic Association of Racial Justice) is holding
discussions and events around the country to celebrate
25 years of progress in working for racial justice.
The Westminster event will be held in the Church
Hall here at Farm Street on Saturday 3 rd October,
1.30pm – 5.00pm, the theme The Changing Face
of Britain . The encounter will be jointly
facilitated by CARJ and Westminster Justice and
Peace Commission.
If
you would like to attend, please contact Patsy Cummings
on pcummings@rcdow.org.uk
or Barbara Kentish at Westminster Justice &
Peace on justiceandpeace@rcdow.org.uk
.
We
hope that there will be room for an essay next week!
YEAR
FOR PRIESTS
As
we continue to mark this year in honour of the ordained
priesthood we are pleased to announce two items
produced by our Diocese: a prayer card for priests
and a leaflet on praying the Rosary for vocations.
These are both available at the doors. October is
the month of the Rosary. Why not add this special
prayer to your devotions?

THE
COMPASSIONATE SAVIOUR: PRAYING THE GOSPEL OF LUKE
Presented
by Lynne Galloway
Four
Mondays: October 19 th & 26 th , November 2
nd & 9 th - 7-8.30 pm
An
opportunity for a small group to be guided in prayer
through selected passages from Luke using both Lectio
Divina – “divine reading”- to listen, ponder
and pray the word of God, and Imaginative Contemplation
- finding yourself within the gospel scene.
Both are ancient methods of prayer which bring scripture
to life and link scripture with our daily lives.
Each evening we will take a story from St. Luke's
gospel, and enter into the story in
a way that will help us discover what this Word
of God is saying to each of us as individuals in
our own unique lives.
